Introduction

For downloading software into the Skycube board or controlling modular robots from the PC, the TTL-232R-5V FTDI cable is used. This cable is connect on one side to the USB port in the PC and on the other side to the Skycube board, by means of a three-pins header. Originally, this cable comes give a six-pin female straight header. It has to be changed by a three-pin header for connecting to the Skycube board. This process is reversible, so that the original cable can be recovered anytime.

Modifying the cable

Step 1: Remove the 6-pin header

The 6 wires should be pull out one. Using a flathead screwdriver lift the tap and pull out the wire.

Step 2: Place the new 3-pin header

Insert the black, yellow and orange wires in the new header. It is very important to connect them exactly in the same way than in the figures. Make sure the header is in the right position, with the tabs facing up (See the pictures).

Paso 3: Proteger y apartar los hilos sobrantes

Poner cinta aislante alrededor de las cabezas metálicas de los hilos sobrantes para que no haya cortocircuitos. Luego doblarlos hacia atrás para dejarlos paralelos al cable. Poner cinta aislante alrededor para fijarlos. ¡¡El cable ya está listo para su uso!!.

1) Poner cinta aislante en los hilos 3 hilos sobrantes

2) Cable listo para ser usado con la Skycube 1.0

Paso 4: Poner una etiqueta

Por último es iportante etiquetar el conector del cable para conectarlo a la Skycube con la orientación correcta, y así no equivocarnos

Conexión a la tarjeta Skycube

El conector hembra de 3 pines del cable se conecta al conector M6 de la Skycube 1.0, en la misma posición indicada en las fotografías. Para evitar colocar el conector al revés, conviene poner una etiqueta, como se muestra en la foto de la derecha.

Para hacer las descargas, la Skycube tiene que estar encendida (led rojo encendido)
